50. Power  -  IV

The power of God’s Word

The key to divine healing lies in the Word of the living God. Just how wonderful is this Word? Is it possible, that there are some things which It cannot do, some cases which God cannot heal? To discover the answer to this question is to see the immense possibilities and scope of  divine healing:

A. God’s Word is creative

The whole world was made by God, by the Word of a living God, Which brought into existence things not previously there (Rom. 4:17). Faith in this fact (Heb.11: 3) will make possible the replacement in the human body of missing organs.

God’s miracles, however, are never unnatural, but supernatural. He can speed up or slow down the process of His creation (Gen.1), and He can sustain what He starts (Is. 40: 26), even on a massive scale of keeping the whole nation of Israel healthy (Ps.105: 37). Surely He is able to meet your needs!

As you speak the Word of God under the guidance and control of the Spirit of God, you can enjoy the same power to create and sustain miracles  -  …..if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain “Move from here to there”, and it shall move…..(Matt.17: 20).

B. Christ is the Word of God in the flesh

God was perfectly demonstrated in action through Christ, Who is the Same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13: 8). He healed all that came to Him, with 19 mass healings and 47 individual healings recorded in the Gospels. As He preached in Galilee, He healed …..every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people (Matt. 4: 23). And we see, that nothing was too hard for Him, as He …..was going about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness (Matt. 9: 35). Further He commissioned all His preachers also to heal ( Matt.10:1, 7, 8, Luke 10:1, 8,9,19), and not merely to pray.

C. Miracles should follow the preaching of the Word

Christ promised this would happen when He left the earth (Mk.16:17,18). After Pentecost the Early Church proved the truth of this promise. After the healing of the lame man five thousand believed (Acts 3, 4).

Acts 5:12  -  And at the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people…..

Acts 5:14-16  - these verses speak for themselves

Acts 9: 32-43  -  Peter, in Lydda, had a man healed (Aeneas), who was bedridden for eight years, and even the dead were raised.

Acts 15:12  -  Missionary work was done through miracles as Paul and Barnabas related at Jerusalem.

Acts 19:11,12  -  And God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out.

We also know of genuine healings today through similar means. And although this was God’s method of demonstrating His Word to a world of heathen spirit-worshippers, we need these means of healing  today as well.

D. His Word does not change

God does not change, and His Word abides forever (1Pet.1: 24, 25). His Word gives us power over all the enemy (Luke 10:19). We should stand on It, when tested, as it will prove the best security. God loses more than we do, if He ever lets us down (Is. 48:10,11).

God wants His church to use the power of His Word.

Paul evangelised by miracles (Rom.15:17-19).

The Lord still wishes to heal today, for …..every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with Whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow (James 1:17).

We are meant to live, sleep and eat the Word of God and to enjoy the Living Word  -  Gal. 2: 20 …..the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and delivered Himself up for me.
